Conferences of Note
By Ken Pyle, ken.pyle@viodi.com, Managing
Editor, Viodi View
After a restful summer, it looks like conference
season is back in full swing. The following summarizes some of the interesting
shows and conferences that Viodi plans on attending over the next few
months. Obviously, this is only a small sampling of the many shows that
are available.
- Digital Hollywood - A show that combines
content providers, advertisers, technology into an intense three day
event. With hundreds of speakers and special tracks dealing with things
such as music, digital rights management and mobile applications, this
show is well worth the time. September 19th-21st in Santa Monica.
- CTIA – I have never been to
this show, but I have heard good things. I am looking forward to learning
more about how mobile video applications will complement telcos’
IPTV efforts. September 27th-29th in San Francisco.
- FTTH Conference – I have always
wanted to go to this conference, as I have heard great reviews from
vendors and operators. It is the premier show dealing exclusively with
Fiber to the Home. October 4th-6th, Las Vegas, NV.
- Telecom05 – USTA’s annual
show will feature heavyweight keynote speakers like Jim Robbins, CEO
of Cox and Ed Whitacre, CEO of SBC. I am looking forward to participating
in the IP Video track at this event. I am especially excited, as this
year admission to the IP Video sessions are included in the basic Telecom05
registration. October 23rd-27th.
- TelcoTV –
A conference and tradeshow with a singular focus on telcos and their
efforts to move into video. This year promises to be bigger than ever.
November 8th-10th, San Diego
- Parks Associates’ Fall Focus
– Parks Associates is one of the premier analyst firms focused
on the digital home. Their Fall Focus event mixes their original research
with speakers from leading edge suppliers to the Digital Home. November
9th-11th, San Jose.
- Streaming Media West – A show
I haven’t been to in a number of years, but one which is especially
appropriate as Internet delivered video becomes more and more of a viable
option. November 15th-17th, San Jose.
