Every once in awhile, it is good to take a look at what is coming up with regards to conferences, seminars and workshops. These are great opportunities for learning and networking. Viodi and its associates will be going to a number of conferences in the next few months and will report on these in upcoming issues. For now, here is a summary of some of the upcoming conferences that will have our direct or indirect involvement:
USTA IPTV Video Webinar – Thursday, February 26th, 1 PM E.S.T. I will be moderating this online panel that will delve into the various aspects of IPTV. We will have a well-balanced panel that will include all perspectives of IPTV, including technical, operational, marketing and programming. Eric Presworsky, Assistant Vice President of Product Management of Zhone discussing why they chose an IP approach for their access product. Geoff Burke of the Video Catalyst Group will explain how successful telcos have transitioned into video. I met with Geoff over the weekend and he is the best at putting a framework together to help a telco with the transition to new services. Surewest will bring the viewpoint of a telco that is successfully providing the triple play. Local Content Workshop - Multiple Cities and Dates in the next two months This is obviously self-serving, but I have to plug this workshop. This one-day workshop is intended to give telcos who have never produced local content a “jump-start” into the business. It will be very interactive and I look forward to the first workshop next week in Minneapolis. We are still deciding on which other cities will be on our list, so please help us decide by clicking here to vote. Digital Hollywood Los Angeles– March 28th to 31st, Santa Monica, CA Those of you who read my review of the Digital Hollywood conference last fall, will recall how impressed I was with the amount of useful information and the great networking opportunity this conference regarding the wonderful world of content. The spring edition will be here next month in lovely, Santa Monica, California. Yours truly will be moderating a panel on telcos and their forays into delivering video services. We will have an allstar line-up of telcos speaking at this conference, including Leif Street from Wood County and Dick Jones of Verizon. VoIPossibilities - An NTCA TechNet Conference and Showcase - May 5-7, 2004, St. Louis, MO With all of the interest in the articles I have written recently about VoIP, I expect this conference to be timely and informative. Viodi will be recording this conference for archiving purposes. Having just finished the CD-ROM for the ISP conference, I find these archives to be a useful reference. If you can’t make this conference or you missed one of NTCA’s earlier conferences, I highly recommend ordering a CD-ROM from their library. Parks Associates – CONNECTIONS: The Digital Home Conference and Showcase - May 5-7, 2004, Dallas TX Regarding the networked home, Parks Associates is the pre-eminent research firm. Their conferences bring together the leading suppliers of chip, consumer electronics and network providers, giving the entire view of where the industry stands and where it is going. Last October, I went to the “lite” version of their conference and was stuffed with several articles worth of useful information. The upcoming conference promises to be twice as large and definitely worth the trip. CTA –Focused Technical Symposium – May 20, 21st, San Diego, CA San Diego in May is the perfect location for learning about all things video. Being near the home-base of the many of the major entertainment companies, this conference is expected to draw attendees and speakers from various content providers. In addition to content, speakers at this conference will discuss the regulatory, technical and operational aspects of a telcos’ deployment of video services. Besides the conference, there is plenty to do in San Diego for the entire family. Telco Video Content Conference @ SUPERCOMM - June 21st, Chicago, IL If San Diego is May is a delight, nothing compares to Chicago in June. Saddled up next to scenic Lake Michigan, the McCormick Center will play host to this conference regarding content in the context of a telco. This one-day conference is being held Monday, June, 21st in conjunction with Supercomm. Viodi is co-producing this conference with USTA and is working very closely to present a speaker line-up like no other. As with past Viodi-produced conferences and workshops, we will be focusing on content from the perspective of the telecom operator. More details will be provided over the next few months.
