[Ken’s Note – I can’t take credit for writing this note – I wish I could as it well done – Please feel free to forward the link to this web page].

As you may know, a good friend and a longtime contributor to our industry, Roger Brown, passed away on October 4, 2005 after battling melanoma cancer. Roger was 46. When people die at a young age it is always difficult to comprehend, and I know Roger’s family is struggling to come to terms with this sorrowful time

As an industry contributor, Roger had few peers. For nearly 20 years he was not simply an editor, publisher and journalist at CED Magazine – for many of us he was CED Magazine. Patiently, convincingly and always with respect, Roger chronicled the progression of cable’s technology platform with fairness and intellectual vigor. We knew more, and we understood more, thanks to Roger’s talents and his work ethic.

As a man, Roger was many things. He was a husband, a true friend, a teller of jokes, a reliable colleague, and one of the most likable people I’ve ever known. Perhaps most memorably of all, Roger was the adoring father of four children who represented the center of his life. With this in mind, several of Roger’s closest friends have organized a fundraising effort that is devoted to the one goal Roger has singularly pursued, and that is a promising future for his children.

The primary goal of the Roger Brown Family Account is to raise financial contributions for the secondary education of Roger’s four children. The oldest, Tony, will be graduated this fall from high school, and I know personally how much it meant to Roger to know that his son would follow Roger’s professional path by studying to become a journalist.

I’m writing today to ask you to consider making a donation to the Roger Brown Family Account. Contributing to the Fund represents a meaningful way not only to exhibit your appreciation for a friend and a colleague, but to support Roger’s family in a way that will make a lasting difference throughout their lives. For Roger, it is the most important thing we can now do, and words cannot express how we are touched by your consideration and your generosity.

Thank you, and God bless you.

Sincerely,
