A Different Kind of VOD Report Card

A Brief Interview with Allan McLennan & Cathy Hetzel of Rentrak

By Ken Pyle, ken.pyle@viodi.com, Managing Editor, Viodi View

Even the most die-hard skeptic has to admit that the VOD business is finally real. Just last week, Rentrak announced that some marquee cable networks, such as NBC-Universal, MagRack and the WWE, will be using their service to provide accurate and unbiased reporting of consumers’ VOD behavior. It has been well known that studios and others with premium content wanted accurate reporting of buys, which led to the development of reporting systems like what ViewNow has provided for VOD.

The need for detailed reporting for advertiser supported VOD is really coming into its own, as traditional linear networks create greater value by combining the power of the 30 second spot with the ability to telescope in an on-demand advertisement. In this video interview, we discuss the importance of timely and accurate VOD reporting with Allan McLennan, President of Rentrak’s Advanced Media & Entertainment group, and Cathy Hetzel, Senior Vice President of Rentrak’s On-Demand Essentials.
